Ally Carter’s Heist Society is the first book in the Heist Society Trilogy.
atrina (Kat) Bishop successfully escaped her childhood life of thievery and crime when she conned her way into the prestigious Colgan School. After only a few months, her co-conspirator, W.W. Hale the Fifth, gets her expelled from the school and delivers grave news. Her father has been wrongly accused of stealing five paintings from a powerful mobster. If the paintings are not returned within two weeks, her father will wind up dead. This sends Kat around the world with her crew of teenage thieves until they are forced to attempt an impossible heist.
Our wonderful narrator, Kat Bishop, decided to leave the life of crime that she was born into. She escapes to the Colgan School for a few months, before being forced back into the life she was running from. At first, many characters hold this against her and she feels left out when they mention jobs that they did without her. Thankfully, as the book goes on, Kat stops feeling left out and focuses on the impossible task at hand. Kat is extremely smart and clever. When compared to Ally Carter’s previous narrators, she lands in a middle ground. She isn’t as smart, nor as talented as Cammie the Chameleon, but she is more talented than Grace Blakely. What makes her unique is that she is on the other side of the law with the profession of art thief. Despite this, her personality is very similar to these two other characters.
Heist Society is a beautiful beginning to a series. While the book isn’t full of action, it gathers suspense like a mystery book until the final moment of confrontation. There aren’t many plot twists , but the book isn't too predictable. For anyone who read the Gallagher Girls series, this book does not disappoint. It is full of the witty lines that we have come to expect from an Ally Carter novel and is highly entertaining.
I give this 287 page book 4 stars.
