Sherrilyn Kenyon’s Instinct is the sixth book in the "Chronicles of Nick" series.
This book takes place not to long after the events of Illusion. In the last book, Nick allowed the two šarras, Livia and Xev, to stay in the human world instead of banishing them to their respective realms. Now, in Instinct, Nick is being tested by dark and powerful entities. One of entity, who Nick embraced as a friend, is after his blood. On top of all this, with his Malachai powers fully unlocked, Nick is finding easier to let his hatred consume him and if hatred were to consume him, it would spell the Apocalypse.
In this book, Nick’s control over his Malachai powers and his trust in others is being tested. Because the Malachai is a creature of hate, whenever Nick uses his Malachai or transforms into the Malachai demon powers he risks losing himself to his hatred, becoming apathetic to the world, and killing everyone close to him. Yet, with dark entites threatening his family, the need for his full powers becomes more potent. At the same time, he is suspicious that someone close to him may have intentions on causing harm to him or his family.
Instinct is one of my favorite books in the “Chronicles of Nick series. Like the others, the plot is fast moving and hooks you in the second you read the first word. Sherrilyn Kenyon's sarcasm and humor shine in this book. It shows especially while Nick is laughing in the face of danger or angering beings that are more powerful than he is. The plot is action packed from beginning to end and occasionally pauses to impart powerful words of wisdom. This book meets and exceeds the standards set by previous entries in the series.
I give this 351 page book 5 stars.

The series takes place in modern day New Orleans. A deadly demonic world lies behind the veil of normalcy. Nick Gautier, the main protagonist, is unlucky enough to have this world revealed to him and to learn that he is destined to play a part in the fate of both worlds.
