Sherrilyn Kenyon’s Illusion is the fifth book in the “Chronicles of Nick” series and, as of 2015, is the only book in the series not to start with the letters “in-”.
After binding his powers in his world, he wakes up in another dimension. There, lots of familiar faces have drastically different attributes. In this new dimension, Stone is his friend, Acheron Parthenopaeus is five feet tall with blue eyes, and, worst of all, Nick stands at five foot eight with blond hair and gray eyes. Trapped in this new dimension without his Malachai powers, Nick must try to find his way home while discerning who is a friend and who is a foe, for in this new universe, even familiar faces aren’t exactly what they seem.
Nick’s character hasn’t changed to much over the course of the series. Although he maintains his sarcasm and stubbornness, but he has gotten slightly wiser thanks to the people around him. This entry doesn’t test his character as much as previous entries, but he does learn that his powers aren’t the curse he always thought they were.
Even though I find this book to be the worst in the series, it is still amazing. Sherrilyn Kenyon’s humor comes though strongly and the book keeps you on your toes until the last page. This book is action packed and has a fast moving plot. From the very beginning, the book has you hooked. About 150 pages into the book, the plot picks up and it reaches the point where it is almost impossible to put the book down. Nick’s ability to laugh in the face of danger makes the book even more entertaining. Although there are a few words of wisdom departed in this book, it is nothing compared to the life lessons Nick was taught in Infamous.
In all I give this 448 page book 4 stars.
Chronicles of Nick
The series takes place in modern day New Orleans. A deadly demonic world lies behind the veil of normalcy. Nick Gautier, the main protagonist, is unlucky enough to have this world revealed to him and to learn that he is destined to play a part in the fate of both worlds.
